The OARSI (Osteoarthritis Research Society International) World Congress on Osteoarthritis took place on the 2nd-5th of May 2019 in Toronto, Canada.
The annual OARSI Congress is a multidisciplinary global forum for everyone interested in ground-breaking research in Osteoarthritis from academia and industry all across the world. Such interested parties include clinical research scientists, radiologists, physiatrists, physical therapists, rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons, methodologists, various health professionals with different backgrounds, but also policy makers and other allied professionals.
The 2019 World Congress comprised an interdisciplinary program with plenary sessions on Machine Learning, Mechanotransduction Pathways, and the Transition from Acute to Chronic Pain. Dr. Clifford Rosen delivered the opening night Keynote Lecture on Pathogenic Mechanisms of Obesity-Induced Osteoarthritis: New Clues from Old Joints.
Among the topics debated, Osteoarthritis of the joints other than the knees and hips was discussed in a Concurrent session on the foot and ankle, as well as a Pre-Congress Workshop on the spine. Another Pre-Congress workshop focused on the prevention of post-traumatic OA in sport and the military. The rest of the workshop topics included: “Joint-on-a-chip” technologies, Patient preferences, Imaging, Gait Analysis, Network Meta-Analysis, and OA Pathogenesis for Beginners. Moreover, highlights from the upcoming OARSI Treatment Guidelines were presented to the audience. As a tradition, there were sessions presenting the highest-rated young investigator abstracts, the great debate, and the year-in-review. Furthermore, there were poster tours led by experts in the field.
Among them were the following posters from the APPROACH research project:
